Attending schmending. And USC rocks!
Woohoo! First OB call...wow. The only doc (with OB backup about 20 min away), 3 nurses, 5 corpsman, a bunch of new moms and babies and 4 in labor. It was busy! I delivered 2 today -- that's awesome. But I almost felt like I did when I delivered my very first... as in...do I remember how to do this? Is it really like riding a bicycle? (maybe a little messier). Phew! 2 healthy baby girls. (Also good because, as my other FM colleagues know, boys = circumcisions.) We follow whomever we deliver and see the babies, too.
No sleep, of course. But a good night overall.
Justin has been unwell this week. We think he caught some yucky virus. Now he's feeling better.
GOOD DEAL - because we have THINGS TO DO!
When do we not?
We have spent a couple of fun nights out with the other "DINKS" we've met (dual income, no kids for those of you who have no idea what i'm talking about)...it's funny how fast you can find one another on base...it's like there's a little radar out. I get the feeling that if we were all to be here for 3 years, at least 1/2 of the people would likely have kids by the end...it's just "that time in life." But everyone is really into travel and fun things to do. sometimes the work week ISN'T so adventurous (there is still a lot of work to do)...but Fridays at the OClub are good. snackies and martinis. Love that.
(To be fair, we also have had a blast with our friends WITH kids...just haven't had so many outings with them yet. We do hang out with our friends who have 3 kids (including one VERY drama-ridden 14 year old) and they are just a blast.)
Anyway, we've had some satellite drama this week. As in, we couldn't get it to work. We even enlisted the help of a newfound friend to put it up...took forever to find the signal! ANd now it's only in black and white, without sound. HMmm...not so good for college football games. you can just imagine -- "was that SC? Ohio state? Where's the ball?"
So instead, we did what every good SC fan does and stop at no cost to find a game. Started with an hour plus at the gym where we could plug in to the TVs on the bikes/treadmills and just watch the game...mind you, 2 hrs of sleep for me. But i'm motivated.
THen, a little sweaty, we went to Chili's...sat at the bar at 11am, drank beer and finished the 2nd half. At least at Chili's everyone didn't stare at you when you surreptitiously cheered when we scored a touchdown! 35-3! HELLO! We looked good. Love that. Did I mention the game was on at 9am on Sunday here? so strange.
This week is a mix of work and pleasure...and my birthday! The big 2-9 on saturday. I have to work in the ER Friday and Saturday nights (oh dear!) but then we're goign into Tokyo for Sunday and Monday. Should be great! It'll be our first trip into the city...pics and stories to come.
More reflection later. it's late.
Just wanted to say "Happy Birthday!"
Glad to see your enjoying yourself over there. We miss you dearly.
Love
The Creechs
