Gosh, I have so much to say about Sumo...what a fun trip. This is the national sport of Japan. It's really rather strategic, even if it is 2 300-lb guys essentially wrestling in front of you. The Sumos all live in "stables" - where they live and train. The Stable Master is in charge of their development. They compete in 6 tournaments per year (this was one of them, in Tokyo) and essentially, the one who wins the most, is the Grand Champion.

I have video of this that I will post because it really is cool. The whole crowd is into it.

There is a huge ritual involved in the pre-match psych out session (which is in the video) -- throwing salt, cleaning the palate, lifting the legs -- all to either stamp out bad spirits or suggest strength to the opponent. Sometimes they do the ritual at least 4 times before the match actually starts. The matches last 10-30 seconds (depending on the strength/strategy of the Sumos).

We were in nosebleed seats but could still see pretty well. Amen to ZOOM. Check out these pictures for more details: CLICK HERE

WOW! IT looks like you are having a great time! I love the different adventures! Congrats on the house, enjoy it. Hey, Starbucks pays pretty well...at least here in the states! And as for coaching...it's something that you love, and you're good at (it's a no-brainer)... $10/hr is better than nothing...why not do both? Good luck!
